Aldridge School is a mixed secondary school and sixth form with academy status located in Aldridge, in the Metropolitan Borough of Walsall in the West Midlands, England. The other secondary school in Aldridge is St Francis of Assisi Catholic Technology College. Although not officially recognised as such, it has the unofficial status of a Specialist Music College,〔http://www.frog.aldridge.walsall.sch.uk/app/os?site=music〕 as the school does offer a music scholarship to around 20 students per year. The school is also recognised as a Science College. The current headmaster is Mr David Mountney. Each student is assigned a House upon entering the school which helps to build confidence and offers care and competition opportunities.〔http://www.aldridge.walsall.sch.uk/houses.html〕 ==History== The school was formed by the merger in 1975 of Aldridge Grammar School and Tynings County Secondary Modern School, which were based in adjacent buildings on the same campus. Aldridge Grammar School opened in September 1959 and was an 11-18 selective school. The Headmaster until his retirement in 1974 was E I E (Eric Ioan Emlyn) Whitman, BSc (1909-1990) who had previously played first class cricket for Glamorgan in 1932.〔(Cricket Archive, player profile )〕 Aldridge School adopted its current name when the merger took place in September 1975. In September 2003, Aldridge School became a Science College.〔http://www.standards.dfes.gov.uk/specialistschools/pdf/RegionJuly03b.pdf?version=1〕〔http://www.aldridge.walsall.sch.uk/sciencecollege/index.html〕 Since then, it has invested heavily in science equipment for each subject, as well as a Biology block. The school boasts 15 laboratories with prep rooms and technical support, available for all three of the sciences.〔http://www.aldridge.walsall.sch.uk/pdf/prospectus/Prospectus.pdf (page 8)〕 In November 2009 six students aged between fourteen and fifteen were hospitalized after drinking ethanol taken from a science lesson. The council said it believed the children had watched an episode of the BBC drama Waterloo Road, in which a similar event took place.〔http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/west_midlands/8359157.stm〕〔http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1227566/Aldridge-School-pupils-hospitalised-copying-Waterloo-Road-ethanol-plot.html〕 抄文引用元・出典: フリー百科事典『 ウィキペディア(Wikipedia)』 ■ウィキペディアで「Aldridge School」の詳細全文を読む スポンサード リンク
